Luxurious Dallas restaurant The Mexican expands with new location in Houston
A Dallas-based fine dining Mexican restaurant is coming to Houston: The Mexican, which made its debut in Dallas' Design District in 2022, will open a location in Houston's Galleria area at Four Oaks Place, a 2.3 million-square-feet office complex at 1300 Post Oak Blvd.
Scheduled to open in early 2026, The Mexican will occupy a 10,000-square-foot, freestanding building. Houston’s Abel Design Group (Mastro’s, Willie G’s) will serve as the restaurant’s architect.
The Mexican is the fine-dining restaurant spearheaded by Monterrey businessman Roberto Gonzalez Alcalá, whose family also owns Mission Foods. It serves Northern Mexico-inspired dishes paired with an extensive selection of agave spirits.
"Inside our doors, we are uncovering a new contemporary Mexico, that takes authenticity and luxury to uncharted heights," Gonzalez Alcalá said when the restaurant opened. "Guests will experience an elevated, cosmopolitan dining adventure that exemplifies the true, traditional Mexican culture of innovation and passion, with great cuisine, all in one."
More details about the opening are expected to be released next year, according to a release, but the Dallas location spared no expense in its multi-million-dollar buildout of a 15,000-square-foot space with seating for 320, including tequila wall and tasting table, cigar lounge with state-of-the-art ventilation, multi-level outdoor patios featuring landscapes from the region, ceramic fixtures, and original Mexican tilework.
Dishes include a showpiece bone marrow accompanied by tacos with filet mignon; a guacamole composed like a Cobb salad; ceviche with sea bass, mango, and pineapple on thinly sliced cucumber; and crusted sea bass on a bed of sauteed greens.
“The demand for high-quality dining experiences in the city has never been higher,” said a spokesperson for Transwestern Real Estate Services, who represents the location's landlord. “We sourced potential operators from across the country and are delighted with this addition for Houston.”
The Mexican joins a number of both traditional Mexican and Tex-Mex options in the Galleria area, including Blanco Cocina + Cantina, The Original Ninfa’s Uptown, and Los Tios’s flagship location in Tanglewood. Dallas Tex-Mex favorite Mi Cocina has claimed the former Seasons 52 space on Westheimer for a new location that’s expected to open in late 2023 or early 2024.
