Canadian doughnut king Tim Hortons to open 2 locations in Dallas-Fort Worth
A major name in coffee and doughnuts is making its debut in Dallas: Tim Hortons, a doughnut and coffee shop chain from Canada, will open two locations in the DFW area in 2024, first in Coppell, and then in Denton.
The Coppell shop, located at 440 N. SH-121, will be first, and will consist of a 1,600-square-foot restaurant plus a drive-thru. According to a company spokesperson, it will open in late 2024.
That will be followed by a second location opening in the Denton Center shopping plaza, at the northwest corner of University Drive and Carroll Boulevard in Denton.
The DFW expansion is being executed by CSM Group, a Houston-based franchisee that opened the first Texas location in Katy in 2022, and who own and operate more than 75 Popeyes and Tim Hortons locations in Texas, Kansas, and Missouri.
CSM development officer Emad Lakhany was quoted as saying that "Coppell holds a special place in my journey within the DFW area."
Founded by NHL legend Tim Horton, the chain opened its first store in Ontario in 1964, first selling hamburgers before switching to focus on doughnuts. By 1991, they had 500 doughnut shops across Canada. (Two years later, they ditched their apostrophe, switching from Tim Horton's to Tim Hortons in 1993.)
Their trademark item is their doughnut holes, called TimBits, a nod to their founder.
Other doughnut
options include cake doughnuts, yeast-based raised, filled doughnuts, and crullers, with seasonal flavors such as their current Easter Egg Donut filled with cream and topped with pastel-striped icing.
Following an increased interest in coffee in the '80s, they expanded their menu to place equal emphasis on coffee and espresso-based drinks such as lattes. In 1993, they added foods beyond doughnuts such as sandwiches, wraps, panini, avocado toast, bagels, and baked goods including muffins, cookies, and croissants.
They opened their first U.S. store in New York in 1984 and currently have stores in Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and West Virginia.
