Trader Joe's grocery chain has new Dallas-area location in the works
Trader Joe's is back in the business of opening stores again.
A new location of cult favorite grocery chain Trader Joe’s is being plotted for Coppell, its first Dallas-area store opening in more than eight years.
The new store will be located at 120 S. Denton Tap Rd., at the intersection of Sandy Lake Road, in a former Natural Grocers store which closed in 2023 (and was previously a Tuesday Morning store).
Trader Joe's is the California-based specialty grocery chain known for its foodie finds, with a line of branded items such as its famous Mandarin orange chicken frozen nuggets, its selection of low-priced wine, and don't forget its cookie butter.
The company applied for an alcohol permit which does not always result in an opening, and a spokesperson would not confirm. However, it's rare for a big company like Trader Joe's to file for a permit and then not open, and like all supermarket chains, they're generally tight-lipped about revealing openings too far in advance.
The last store they opened in Texas was in Houston on Westheimer Road in 2016.
"We are actively looking at hundreds of neighborhoods across the country as we hope to open more new neighborhood stores each year," a spokesperson said in an email. "We are excited, too, as we plan to add more stores this year than ever before."
Coppell would follow another new store coming to Texas in Sugarland, which was announced in March.
The Coppell center is also home to a Texas Fitness, Chipotle, Hollywood Feed Store, Cici's Pizza, and a location of Biscuit Bar, among other businesses.
Trader Joe's opened its first store in Dallas in 2013, on Greenville Avenue. Their fans are loyal and their products often become viral favorites like the current craze for a limited run of canvas mini tote bags they recently issued which sold out quickly and are being sold for crazy prices on ebay.
There are currently nine Trader Joe's locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, including five in Dallas, and one each in Fort Worth, McKinney, Plano, and Southlake, and 545 locations across the U.S., with another 24 listed as coming soon.
