Chicken & waffles headed to Las Colinas via Southern restaurant Tupelo Honey
Ginormous biscuits are headed for Las Colinas: Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar, the Southern chain from North Carolina, is opening a location near the heart of Las Colinas at 6000 High Point Dr., in a new center at the primo intersection of 114 and 161.
According to a release, the restaurant will open in June.
It'll be be the second in the DFW area, following Frisco , which opened in 2017, as part of the lineup of bars and restaurants that accompanied the opening of the Star in Frisco.
In 2018, Tupelo Honey made our list of Best Biscuits in CultureMap's annual Tastemaker Awards — certainly a worthy contender, with their "ginormous" biscuits, almost two inches high, with lots of black pepper, and served with blueberry preserves.
Tupelo Honey was founded in 2000 as one of the first farm-to-table scratch kitchens in downtown Asheville, NC, and they pride themselves on traditions drawn from their Carolina mountain roots.
They currently have 25 locations across the South and Midwest, including four locations in their home state of North Carolina and three in South Carolina, making a total of seven locations across the Carolinas.
Signature dishes include Honey Dusted Fried Chicken, Shrimp & Grits, and Bourbon Peppercorn Glazed Meatloaf.
They do a variety of Chicken & Waffles, available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner including sriracha honey fried chicken & waffles; Mac-N-Cheese waffle topped with fried chicken, garlic buttermilk ranch, pickles, and chives; and country-style fried chicken & waffles, topped with milk gravy, plus two fried eggs on the side.
They're a good place for lunch with lots of sandwiches, bowls, salads, lunch combos, and fun sharing starters like fried green tomatoes, fried pickles, spicy cauliflower bites, nachos topped with chicken & chorizo, and cast iron pimento cheese dip.
In anticipation of the opening, they're hosting a hiring fair through May 19, for more than 100 front- and back-of-house positions, including servers, hosts, bartenders, line cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers, Monday-Friday from 10 am-5 pm, at the Springhill Suites by Marriott DFW Airport East/Las Colinas at 5800 High Point Dr., one block away from the restaurant. Walk-ins are welcome — applicants should bring two forms of ID and even better, pre-apply online.
