Brazilian steakhouse with bargain prices to open on lake in Garland
A Brazilian steakhouse known for its low-for-steak prices is coming to Garland: Called Vila Brazil, it's part of a small local chain and will open at 4881 Bass Pro Dr., taking over the space from the former TLC On The Lake.
Vila Brazil was founded by restaurateur Roberto de Sa, who opened the first location in Irving in 2011, as a home-grown rendition of churrascaria-type restaurants such as Fogo de Chao.
Vila offers 10 cuts of beef, chicken, pork, and lamb, cooked over an open charcoal grill churrascaria-style, which roughly translates from Portuguese to “barbecue.” The meats are served rodízio-style, where waiters rove the restaurant with large skewers of meat and cut servings directly onto diners’ plates.
True to churrascuria form, the restaurant also has a buffet salad bar, featuring more than two dozen options including rice, mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli, marinated mushrooms, lettuce greens, and cucumber-tomato salad.
One signature item is their cinnamon-grilled pineapple, cooked on the grill and served hot to all tables. There's also a full bar with margaritas and mojitos.
Prices are $25 for weekday lunch, and $20 for the salad bar buffet only. Dinner is $35, as compared to the $45 to $60 charged by other churrascuria chains, although to be fair, the chains in question offer a larger spread.
In addition to Vila Brazil, de Sa and his family have two other restaurants: One a similarly-named place in Arlington called VB's Steakhouse which has a similar menu but more upscale atmosphere and price range; and the other a North Dallas "galeteria" called Casa Pollastro, specializing in Brazilian-style spatchcocked grilled chicken.
According to a release, the Garland location will be in a 7,332-square-foot freestanding restaurant building in Harbor Point, leased through Greg Blandford and Jack Thomas with Weitzman handling negotiations on behalf of the steak house. Located on the shore of Lake Ray Hubbard, Harbor Point is home to Bass Pro Shops, Sofrano's Greek Restaurant and Sports Bar, Flying Saucer Draught Emporium, and Primo's Tex-Mex Grille. Opening date is still TBA.
