Dallas derby fans do their best divot stomp at 13th annual Polo on the Lawn
Dallasites dressed in their finest derby attire headed to Prestonwood Polo & Country Club for the 13th annual Polo on the Lawn, an afternoon filled with live music, games and the broadcast of the Kentucky Derby, of course.
No derby party is complete without a special cocktail, and bartender Amber West with Caledonia Spirits was up to the task, mixing up the event’s signature “Thoroughbred” mint julep made with Barr Hill Gin. Cocktails in hand, spectators — including Christin Carter, Jodi Banks, Katy Milarta, David Werntz, Michelle Werntz, Leslie Brown, Elizabeth Foster and Sonny Garcia — went to the field during halftime for the traditional divot stomp. Another fun twist to the day was live painting by artist Darin Vartanian.
Best-dressed derby fans did not leave empty-handed. Contest judges — including Miss Texas Ivana Hall, stylist Laurie Graham and actor Russ Vandeveerdonk — awarded prizes from sponsors such as Abi Ferrin, Persona Custom Clothiers and Chocolate Secrets in categories for best derby hat; best picnic; best tailgate; and best dressed lady, gentleman, child and family.
Polo on the Lawn benefits Project Transformation, which uses event funds to support its free summer programs in low-income communities. Focused on literacy, life skills and leadership development, Project Transformation’s programs annually serve more than 1,000 students in first through 12th grades, ultimately helping participants graduate high school and attend college.
