The fourth annual Get Groovy gala lured in more than 400 devotees to the Westin Galleria for a '60s-inspired bash benefiting MakeAWay Charities.
Honorary chairs Pat and Emmitt Smith welcomed the crowd of bidders in the silent and live auctions, which raised $94,000 for the nonprofit that helps families in financial distress avoid foreclosure and eviction.
La Madeleine founder (and one of the sponsors of the night) Patrick Esquerre briefly stole the show from the auctioneer to talk up the Paris "dream vacation" auction item (which includes a trip on Esquerre's yacht). After the bidding, co-founder Kathy Hayes explained the original mission of MakeAWay — to help single mothers in need — and guests donated to "Fund a Need," which helps 20 families pay for their energy, rent and medical bills.
Later, to celebrate the success of the charitable organization, renowned Beatles tribute band A Hard Night's Day performed as Arthur Murray pros danced beside guests, including executive director Jay Hellwig, Jan Miller, Bruce Hopper, Tara and Bill Dunham, Jackson, Mark Bishara, Elizabeth Thomé, and Stacey Dockery.
Ticket sales included, the evening raised $240,000 for MakeAWay.
