Johnny Manziel says adios to college life and declares for NFL draft
It seems Johnny Manziel has had his fill of college competition and NCAA guidelines and will enter the 2014 NFL draft, according to ESPN. Manziel filed the official paperwork on Wednesday to declare for the draft.
The Texas A&M signal caller is foregoing his final two years of eligibility after a short but illustrious career in College Station during which he became the first freshman to win the Heisman and led the Aggies in the competitive SEC.
Johnny Football threw for 7,820 yards and 63 touchdowns while running for 2,169 yards and 30 touchdowns in two seasons, earning an avalanche of awards, including the Heisman, AP Player of the Year and All-American honors in 2012. In 2013, he was named the SEC Male Athlete of the Year.
Manziel is expected to be a first-round pick at the draft in April, though where is still unsure, as the combine and evaluation processes are yet to get going in earnest after Monday’s BCS national championship bout between Florida State and Auburn University.
In his short time at Texas A&M, Johnny Football was nearly as famous for his off-field antics as his on-field production. Between pictures of him partying popping up nearly every other week to an investigation into payment for autographs, the spotlight shone brightly on the quarterback wherever he went.
