Former Aggies star and infamous party boy Johnny Manziel goes to rehab
It appears Johnny Manziel's party-boy ways have finally caught up to him. The Cleveland Browns quarterback and former Heisman winner entered a treatment facility last Wednesday. The move was announced via the Tyler native's publicist, Denise Michaels, in a statement earlier today.
"Brad Beckworth, a friend and advisor to Manziel and his family, has confirmed that Johnny entered treatment on Wednesday,'' the statement reads. "Johnny knows there are areas in which he needs to improve in order to be a better family member, friend and teammate, and he thought the offseason was the right time to take this step."
Manziel, who made waves while at Texas A&M for a run-in with the law over a disorderly conduct charge, recently finished his rookie season with the Browns after being selected with the 22nd pick in the first round.
He started two games late in the season in place of Brian Hoyer before a hamstring injury sidelined him. He finished with one rushing touchdown, two interceptions and a QB rating of 42.0.
His rookie season also saw more controversy as he was fined for flipping the bird during a preseason loss to Washington, and those within the Browns organization questioned his work ethic after a lackluster season.
According to The Plain Dealer, Browns general manager Ray Farmer released the following statement:
We respect Johnny's initiative in this decision and will fully support him throughout this process. Our players' health and well-being will always be of the utmost importance to the Cleveland Browns. We continually strive to create a supportive environment and provide the appropriate resources, with our foremost focus being on the individual and not just the football player.
Johnny's privacy will be respected by us during this very important period and we hope that others will do the same.
