Dallas ranks among best cities in America to start your summer vacation
Summertime means summer vacation and the desire to get the truck out of the oppressive Texas heat. So it’s a good thing that Dallas is one of the best departure cities in the country, according to CardHub.com.
The credit card company used info from Travel Leaders Group to calculate which cities offered the best experience in terms of average flight time to popular destinations, ticket prices, and number of connections. In other words, CardHub determined which departure cities are most accessible — logistically and financially — for U.S. travelers.
Overall, Dallas ranked No. 4 on the survey. For domestic departures, Dallas actually came in second to Denver, but Big D slipped to ninth in international travel. We suspect that the newly styled Love Field had a role in helping out that domestic ranking.
Chicago was rated the best overall for international and domestic departures. Washington, D.C., came in second; New York City, Dallas and Philadelphia round out the top five.
Houston landed at No. 9 overall, bolstered by good marks in international and domestic travel. San Antonio didn’t fare as well. It placed 29 (out of 30) for domestic and 21 for international and ranked No. 25 overall.
At least it isn’t Riverside, California, which came in dead last in both overall and domestic travel.
The study also found that international trips account for only 16 percent of U.S. travel expenditures; the average international flight costs $1,193, takes 13 hours and has one connection. Compare that to the average domestic flight, which costs $540 and takes an average five-and-a-half hours.
