Fort Worth-based American Airlines adds first DFW-Daytona nonstop
Fort Worth-based American Airlines is adding a new seasonal nonstop flight from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to Daytona Beach International Airport — service that had sort of been the exclusive turf of Delta Airlines.
Prior to this nonstop service, if you wanted to get to Daytona, you'd take Delta, with a layover at Atlanta; or else fly into Orlando and take a shuttle to Daytone, which takes a little over an hour.
American is also offering new nonstop service from Daytona to Philadelphia, another flight that has been a Delta specialty.
These new flights beef up American's presence at Daytona which currently consists of four daily flights to Charlotte, North Carolina.
The flights will be a daily morning service. They're scheduled to begin in December and will run through March. Passengers will be able to select business and economy class seats.
Daytona airport director Karen Feaster says in a release that they're thrilled. "This is a very uncertain time for the airline industry, but the leadership at American understands the desire to travel to and from the Daytona Beach area," she says.
Beyond providing more options for residents, they're hoping it will boost tourism in the Daytona Beach area and highlight the importance of regional airports like DAB, which is a very easy airport to navigate.
"Our recent investments to the airport coupled with our solid relationship with American are some of the reasons they believe in the market here in Volusia County," said George Recktenwald, county manager for Volusia County Government, which operates the airport. "These new destinations provide an enhanced service offering to our community, while showing visitors just how convenient it is to explore all the county has to offer."
