Kitschy new J.R. Ewing Bourbon capitalizes on return of Dallas TV show
With season three of Dallas coming up, a bottling company is capitalizing on that momentous occasion with a kitschy namesake bourbon. Called J.R. Ewing Bourbon, it's named after the Larry Hagman character and comes from the equally kitschy Southfork Bottling Company.
The bourbon will be available in March.
Distilled in Kentucky, it's a 4-year-old, 80-proof amber-colored bourbon with a screen-printed image of Southfork Ranch visible through the front of the bottle. It's just the thing for the dedicated fan of the TV show. Which means a lot of English people will want it, because Dallas has always been inexplicably huge in England.
A release describes the bourbon as well-balanced and slightly fruity, with a lightly spicy/honey flavor.
"The new brand pays tribute to the character with whom everyone around the world is familiar," said Andy Harmon, co-founder of Southfork Bottling Company. "Around the world" = England.
Larry Hagman died in November 2012, but his son Preston Hagman said, "My father would have loved the fact that this new bourbon was named after his legendary character."
J.R. Ewing Bourbon is a partnership between Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Warner Bros. Television Group, in collaboration with Southfork Bottling Company. It will first launch in 14 states across the South and Midwest, with plans to expand nationally within a few months and internationally by year's end. "Internationally" — tally ho, England!
Dallas begins its third season on February 24 at 8 pm on TNT.
