One of Guy Fieri's favorite gas-station restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth is spinning off with a big brother.
Chef Point Bar and Restaurant, the gourmet restaurant located inside a gas station in Watauga that became a local sensation following its 2011 appearance on Diners, Driveins and Dives, will open a second location in Colleyville.
The restaurant will be located at 5220 SH-121, in the space that was most recently occupied by Gators Cafe. Nestled between La Hacienda Ranch and Rio Mambo, it stood empty for more than a year.
Chef Point owners Franson Nwaeze and Paula Merrell took possession of the location in early summer, but still have much work to do in terms of updating the space.
"We're aiming to get it open in late fall, maybe November," said a spokesperson.
It's a big step up for a restaurant that started out in a gas station because the couple could not get a loan from a bank.
The restaurant is known for upscale fine-dining specialties like duck l'orange, blackened stuffed chicken, and their signature bread pudding.
In the years since they've been open, they've added cocktails and a brunch menu where you can get a bloody mary garnished with fried chicken, a slider, and waffle fries.
Colleyville represents a next step evolution. They'll duplicate their fine-dining menu, full bar, and wine list, in a bigger space. They hope to accommodate live music, and even a dog-friendly patio.
The only thing they'll be missing: a gas station.
