Spanish Colonial in trendy East Dallas neighborhood lays on the charm
If "character" is at the top of your house-hunting wish list, look no further than this new listing in super-hot Lakewood Heights. The "unmolested" Spanish Colonial at 6338 Ellsworth Ave., listed for $559,000, satisfies the desire for something old, but also something new.
Built in 1937, the home has the requisite stucco exterior, tile roof and arched windows (which have been replaced). Inside, beyond the foyer and through the archway, are vaulted ceilings accented by dark-wood beams; that same dark wood is echoed in the window casings. A fireplace anchors one of two living spaces, and original hardwoods run throughout.
The hacienda-style kitchen is cozy, with a lot of tile accents, but there is also a breakfast nook and formal dining room. In total there are three bedrooms and two baths in the 2,061-square-foot footprint.
Listing agent George Haynes, of Ebby Halliday, says the house has been redone, but it reflects the style and architecture of the period in which it was built. The main bath was beautifully remodeled with Mexican tiles, as a nod to the home's origins, but the vessel sink speaks to today's lifestyle. The master suite was a "flawless" addition, Haynes notes.
