What: Go Red For Women Luncheon
Where: Omni Dallas Hotel
The 411: More than 1,100 passionate people wore red to this annual luncheon, co-chaired by Lisa Cooley and Janelle Walker, to help raise awareness and funds for research and education programs that fight heart disease and strokes in women. Guests took part in health screenings, CPR training, cooking demos, and even a silent auction — which made this luncheon more interactive and unique than the typical dine-and-dash style daytime fete.
A particularly moving moment came when more than 75 heart disease survivors took the stage to encourage men and women to be part of the fight against heart disease and stroke. Emmy award winner Leeza Gibbons then moderated a roundtable conversation with American Heart Associations's CEO Nancy Brown and National Board President Dr. John Warner that involved open dialogue about the local and national work of the organization.
This year's luncheon, which is one of the top fundraising luncheons in the country for the American Heart Association, raised just over $1.5 million for the Dallas division.
