At the recent — and sold-out — Fashion Stars for a Cause, stylish philanthropists descended on Dallas Country Club to raise funds for the Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas. Event chairman Yvonne Crum and center executive director Margie Wright served as proud hostesses during the event that bravely discusses the often-taboo subject.
With signature cocktails in hand, guests mingled with this year’s Fashion Stars — Jennifer Fleming, Jamie Fowler, Leah Frazier, Rebecca Hallam, Caroline Harrison, Dr. Naila Malik, Charmaine Marshall, Dawn Mellon, Jessi Moreau, Dawn Neufeld, Melissa Rountree and Cathy Williamson — who then strutted down the runway wearing fashions provided by Belk.
After the fashion presentation, emcee Suzie Humphreys introduced featured speaker Debbie Murray, whose powerful message centered around hope. The event also served as the debut for Fashion Stars Magazine, an annual publication that celebrates hope and style.
The evening ended with a surprise musical tribute to honorary chair and Fashion Stars Magazine cover girl Toni Munoz-Hunt. Kyle Hughes sang “For Good,” a tradition for the person who has done the most for the event during that particular year.
On the way out, attendees — including Caroline Rose Hunt, Dee Wyly, Sue and Pryor Blackwell, Gretchen Henry, Landa and Paul Parker, Laurie Harrison, Margaret Keliher, Terry Bentley Hill, Carolyn Lupton, Vodi Cook, and Laura Reeder — snapped up raffle tickets for prizes such as a dinner for 10 by “Royal Chef” Darren McGrady and a $5,000 Belk gift card. The raffle will be held at Belk Galleria Dallas on May 21.
Each month, 1,500 people in crisis call the Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas to speak to a trained, caring counselor. Because of funds raised at events like this one, there is always someone available to talk, regardless of the day or time.
