The always-generous Faye Briggs welcomed supporters into her home to kick off fundraising efforts for PurpleStride DFW 2014, a 5K timed run and awareness walk that benefits the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
Once the crowd gathered, event chair Chris Trowbridge had some big news to share: The fundraising stakes have been raised to $1 million. That money helps ensure a higher survival rate among pancreatic cancer patients.
Following his opening remarks, several guests — including Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle; Suzanne Mitchell, former director of the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders; and Anirban Maitra, M.D., a doctor at MD Anderson Cancer Center and chair of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s scientific advisory board — gave heartfelt speeches about how pancreatic cancer has touched their lives.
PurpleStride DFW is set for November 8 at Klyde Warren Park. You can register to participate online.
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is a national organization that creates hope in a comprehensive way through research, patient support, community outreach and advocacy for a cure.
