Forty Five Ten hosts fashion fans for Sharon Socol book-signing fete
Dallas house of style Forty Five Ten hosted a fabulous book-signing affair in honor of Sharon Socol and her new tome, Plus One: An Outsider’s Photographic Journey Into the World of Fashion. Joining the photographer was her husband, Howard, former CEO of Barneys New York.
Sharon lived behind the camera for more than 30 years, capturing images from the front row and backstage at couture shows around the world. Instead of living in the shadow of her high-powered husband, she created a career for herself. Often she was her husband’s plus one — hence the title of the book — but she always had her own perspective.
Plus One has been praised by the likes of Alber Elbaz, creative director of Lanvin, who is featured in the book. “She photographed real people at real moments,” Elbaz said. “She did not photograph ‘fashion.’ … In our world of fantasy, Sharon captures the moment of truth.”
Speaking of praise, stylish Dallas fans — including Thom Faust, Muffin Lemak, Kira Plastinina, Missy Rogers, Howard Rachofsky, Allen Questrom, Karla McKinley and Shelby Wagner — had more kind words about the photographer’s ability to capture the essence of the dressmakers; tailors; makeup artists; models; and iconic designers such as Diane Von Furstenberg, Narciso Rodriguez and Zac Posen.
But don’t fret if you missed this fete. Plus One is available at Forty Five Ten for $60.
