Fans of Texas Discovery Gardens salute 2014 Flora Award winners
Here’s how we like to do the charitable event thing in Dallas: announcement party, sponsor party, main event. Because, well, the more opportunity to celebrate good deeds, the better.
Texas Discovery Gardens followed the formula when Susie and John Adams welcomed guests into their Highland Park home for the announcement that Suzy and Tom Rhodes are the 2014 Flora Award recipients.
“Texas Discovery Gardens is doing great things in our community,” said the couple. “Not only do the gardens have the wonderful butterfly house for all ages to enjoy, but the staff is teaching kids as well as adults the importance of our environment. Teaching kids about gardening gives a child a chance to learn an important life skill — the satisfaction that comes from caring for something over time while experiencing its cycle of life.”
Among those in attendance were friends and family of the Rhodes, past honorees such as Barbara Hunt Crow, board members, and 2013 chairs Jennifer Huff and Courtney Love. They were there to toast this power couple for their devotion and passion for preserving the environment and their longtime support of the Texas Discovery Gardens.
Executive director Dick Davis offered his heartfelt congratulations to the Rhodes while they and the rest of the charitable crowd enjoyed delicious hors d’oeuvre prepared by chef Trina Nelson and her culinary students from Le Cordon Bleu.
The Texas Discovery Gardens will formally honor the Rhodes with their Flora Award on November 6 at the annual black tie event at Fair Park.
