A Dallas restaurant team versed in Indian food is opening an innovative new to-go spot: Called Elephant Indian Grill, it’s a to-go only restaurant opening in the Park Cities, at 5601 W. Lovers Ln. #110, in the former Granny’s Cajun Cooking, where it’s set to launch in late June.
The shop is actually a spinoff of a restaurant with almost the name name — Elephant Indian Bar and Grill — which opened in East Dallas in the former Buzzbrews space at 4154 N. Central Expwy. in December.
Both locations are from chef Praveen Prasannan, who also owns the Shivas Bar and Grill concept, which has two outlets in downtown Dallas and in Allen. (And Praveen's brother Prini is about to open Silk Road, an Indian restaurant in Coppell.)
Prasannan was grateful to get the Granny’s Cajun Cooking space — it closed in December 2024 after four years — as it fills a perfect niche: This will be the first Indian to-go concept to open on this side west of the Park Cities, five minutes outside from Love Field Airport.
"There's nothing like this in the area, with few places to get Indian food on that side of town," Prasannan says. "We currently have customers coming to East Dallas — but this will be more convenient, and we'll do to-go and delivery through my own delivery service."
While most of the business will be to-go, the space will include about five tables inside for waiting or eating a quick meal.
The menu will be the same as the dine-in restaurant featuring dishes like chicken samosas, biryani, tikka masala, tandoori chicken, wraps, and coconut chicken.
Other items include Indo-Chinese dishes such as fried rice, stir-fried hakka noodles, and crispy chilli shrimp. Plus, vegetarian and vegan dishes such as coconut masala, lentil soup, paneer salad, and saag chana, a dish of spinach and chickpeas.
That strip of Lovers Lane across from Inwood Village has always had an appealing collection of small, independent businesses, with restaurants ranging from dependable old-timers like Sushi House, Lover's Pizza & Pasta, and Rafa's Cafe Mexicano to recent additions such as Belén de la Cruz, an empanada concept from Georgia that just opened next door. It's a secret little foodie strip.
