    Cool off this summer with these crafty Dallas cocktails

    Summertime can be cruel — the longer days are more inviting for sitting on patios or relaxing poolside after work, which would be perfect if you weren’t slowly melting.

    Really, the only logical way to beat the heat is to drink really refreshing summer cocktails and ride it out. For that, we’ve put together a list of some drinks we think can help.

    The Four Seasons has introduced the Farmer’s Tan, a rum cocktail with ingredients all from within 100 miles of the resort: Stingray Spice Rum from Carrollton with homegrown jalapeños, cilantro and basil leaves mixed with in-house simple syrup and lime juice. The Farmer’s Tan is available at Bar 19 or the Terrace Lounge for $13.

    The Quarter Bar has an array of booze pops with flavors such as the Filthy Monkey (chocolate banana) to Blemonade (blackberry lemonade). These vodka- or rum-filled pops are part childhood and part drunk. They’re $6, but if you go on Tuesday, they cost only $2 until 10 pm. That’s, like, more than half off.

    The People’s Last Stand released its spring/summer menu last week, and some of the new additions include the Mayan Summer made with tequila, mescal, lemon, celery, cilantro, pink peppercorn, serrano peppers, agave and celery bitters. There is also a drink called Damn the Thyme, a gin cocktail with lemon, pineapple, thyme (duh), cinnamon and soda. People’s Last Stand also started its Bottled Cocktail program with bottled Moscow Mules, Cuba Libres and more.

    The Standard Pour was just named one of the 55 Best Bourbon Bars by Bourbon Review, but it has plenty more going on besides bourbon, like the Twain & Salinger, made from High West Rendezvous rye, Huckleberry vermouth, Dolin Rouge sweet vermouth with Campari and a grapefruit peel. If you’re in the mood for something a little fruitier, the Strawberry Tom and Tonic is made with fresh strawberry juice, lemon juice, Tanqueray Malacca gin and Mediterranean tonic. Then there’s the impressively mysterious Birdsong with Cana Brava Panama rum, Hum liqueur, egg white, lime juice, Bali Hai bitters, orgeat and nutmeg.

    FT33 might be recognized for its wine program, but there are two new summer drinks available: Japanese Elvis and The Bard. The former is Tanqueray Malacca, orgeat, lime juice, honey simple syrup, orange blossom water and mint served on crushed ice. The Bard is a little more straightforward, with Glenmorangie 10 year scotch, Dolin Rouge sweet vermouth, lavender bitters and vanilla bean.

    Urban Taco on McKinney Avenue introduced Thirsty Thursdays June 20 as “a celebration for Urban Taco social media followers after reaching milestones on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.” We’re living in the future, people. What this means for you, dear drinker, is that your first two margaritas or mojitos will only be $1 from 6 to 10 pm every Thursday. Also enjoy live Latin jazz music and complimentary guacamole bites.

    Dallas diner & music venue will open in former Ferris Wheeler space

    A new restaurant has been unveiled that will take over the former Ferris Wheeler space near Dallas' Design District at 1950 Market Center Blvd.: Called AM/FM, it'll be an all-day diner and lounge with a big backyard and a stage for live music, and it's from Spune Productions, the music and event production company.

    According to a release, it'll open in early January initially with evening hours, cocktails, and a few afternoon soccer matches. Music acts are already booked beginning January 8. More hours will be added down the road.

    Ferris Wheelers BBQ, which was also a restaurant with a big backyard and a stage for live music, closed in November after eight years. Spune had already been involved since 2023 to help ramp up the live music side. Now they'll take it over with a fresh new personality and long hours.

    They were famous for having a Ferris wheel on-site; an inquiry on its status went unanswered.

    The diner will open daily at 7 am, serving "musicians coming off late nights, workers heading into morning shifts, and neighbors who want a place that remembers their name," says the release very poetically.

    They've redecorated the interior with a new bar and banquettes that wrap the room. Alongside the renovations inside, the set-up outdoors will evolve over the coming weeks, with extra care given to the concert experience,

    The food at AM/FM will be rooted in elevated Diner classics, with a menu overseen by chef Anastacia Quinones-Pittman (Oh, Hi! Hospitality) that's influenced by Mexican-American kitchens and Nuevo Southern traditions.

    Breakfast offerings include huevos rancheros, breakfast tacos, breakfast empanadas, French toast, avocado toast, pork belly toast, and an intriguing twist on pancakes called masa pancakes, made using masa harina AKA corn flour.

    Lunch includes a chicken Milanesa Caesar salad, Sonoran hot dog, fried catfish po'boy, kale salad, Cobb salad, and a Mexican twist on chicken noodle soup with fideo noodles.

    Entree plates include pot roast, meatloaf, fried chicken, and a weekly pot pie.

    The beverage program will aim for accessibility with coffee, cocktails, and craft beer, says Victor Rojas, Quinones-Pittman's partner at Oh, Hi! Hospitality.
