That said, there is still plenty of time to squeeze in some oysters, whiskey, and a doughnut or two, because this is America. And how could we forget about the corn dog competition? Better start saving room now.

Oysters and Martinis at Dallas Fish Market
This culinary event features martinis paired with Dallas Fish Market executive chef Richard Triptow’s stand-out artistry with fine-catch oysters. The event starts at 6:30 pm and tickets are $50. The event is sold out, however, interested parties should call 214-744-3474 to inquire about the waitlist.

Beer & Cheese: A Fellowship of Fermented Foods at Lakewood Brewing Co.
Tyler Coenen from Scardello Artisan Cheeses joins the crew from Lakewood Brewing Co. to guide guests through the different flavors and types of cheese and how they pair with craft beers. Tickets are $35 and include admission into the tasting, a 10-ounce LBC Belgian tulip glass, a pint upon arrival, four 5-ounce samples of beer, and eight different cheeses. The event starts at 6:30 pm.

Whiskey and Women at Pepper Smash
With the help of Maker's Mark and Knob Creek, Pepper Smash wants to teach women about all of the variations and complexities of whiskey and how to pair it with your meal. This four-course dinner starts at 7 pm and includes watermelon salad, mini lobster rolls, Akaushi braised rib-eye tostada, and sticky toffee pudding tartlet. Tickets are $55.

Cook Out on the Porch at Mudhen Meat & Greens
Kick off the Summer Party Series with chef-special barbecue, craft beer, and cocktails paired with backyard melodies. Tickets are $30 and include a barbecue buffet, two beverages, and live music. The event starts at 6:30 pm.

Sunday, June 3

Donut & Beer Pairing Flight at Luck
Join LUCK for the July installment of this pairing event with Glazed Donut Works. Mini doughnuts are matched with brews from North Texas craft breweries. Tickets are $18, and there are seatings at 11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm. Plan on being there for two hours.

Brass Knuckle Corndog Beatdown at the Libertine Bar
Contestants battle for the coveted Brass Knuckles trophy and a $100 gift certificate at this annual Fourth of July event. Last year’s winner and defending champion, Andy Chu, won yet again. However, he downed just 14, which is five less than his previous victory. The event starts at 5:30 pm and lasts for 15 minutes. Participants must register at the restaurant by 5 pm on the day of the event.

The Eighth Annual Brass Knuckle Corndog Beatdown is happening July 4 at the Libertine Bar.

Fun conveyor-belt sushi restaurant debuts at McKinney mixed-use

A Japanese-inspired restaurant that brings you sushi on a conveyor belt is now open in McKinney: Called Kura Revolving Sushi, it’s located at 8585 W. University Dr. #150 in the West Grove mixed-use development, where it debuts on April 25, with an opening party taking place all weekend from April 25-27.

"We are thrilled to open our sixth DFW location in McKinney, which is one of the fastest growing cities in the country with a population that's increasingly diverse and open to new culinary experiences," says Chief Development Officer Robert Kluger in a statement. "We believe the West Grove shopping center is the perfect place to share our authentic Japanese dining experience with this growing community."

Kura Sushi USA was established in 2008 and has grown to be the largest revolving sushi chain: Small plates of sushi and sides are placed on a conveyor belt that snakes around the restaurant, allowing customers to grab items as they pass by.

They have more than 100 menu items, including sushi, ramen, and popular Asian starters like edamame and wontons. Each item is charged separately starting at $3.45 a plate.

There are two conveyors as follows:

Revolving Sushi Bar. The primary belt that snakes through the dining area, with plates of sushi that are protected by the chain's Mr. Fresh ventilated sushi lid. They say it limits airborne exposure and has plate-tracking technology that monitors how long the item has been circulating, ensuring food remains fresh.
Express Belt. Referred to as the "sushi highway," the express belt is positioned above the primary belt and is used to deliver special orders.

Bikkura Pon Prizes
An integral part of Kura Sushi USA’s tech interactive dining experience, Bikkura Pon is a machine that dispenses prizes after customers dispose of their plates properly. A touch panel registers the number of sushi plates dispensed into the plate disposal slot. After five plates, a short animation plays; after every fifteen plates, a prize such as a keychain or phone mount pops out.

Kura has more than 550 locations in Japan, U.S., and Taiwan. There are 70 locations in 20 states and Washington D.C. McKinney is the fifth location to open in DFW; other locations include Carrollton, Euless, Plano, Frisco, and Fort Worth.
