Vintage guitar shop with celeb clientele brings killer collection to Dallas
Twenty-three years ago, guitar aficionado Dave Hinson opened Killer Vintage in St. Louis, a guitar shop that's become world famous for its assortment of rare, specialty guitars and celebrity clientele.
Now, Hinson is bringing his expertise to Dallas with the shop's second location, at 3738 Haggar Way, in Dallas' Love Field area.
"I've been working for Heritage Auctions since 2009 and noticed there was not a true vintage guitar shop in Dallas," says Hinson. "It seemed odd that a city so rich in musical history wouldn't have a shop to accommodate the touring bands and the wide range of guitar enthusiasts — from collector to working musician."
Since opening last October, the Dallas shop has hosted everyone from Tom Petty, Eric Johnson, John Shanks, and Ian Moore to Dallas' very own Dean Fearing.
"He's a regular, since the shop is located between his house and the restaurant," says Hinson.
Drawn by the shop's eclectic inventory of rare, vintage instruments — which Hinson travels the globe to source — and new guitars from Gibson Custom Shop, Collings Guitars, Strymon Pedals, and more, Killer Vintage has become a required stop for musicians traveling through Big D.
Soon, Hinson will expand the shop with a ladies boutique featuring craft jewelry and art from neighboring Kristy Stubbs Gallery.
"Because of our extensive knowledge about vintage guitars and other musical instruments, we have a long and respected reputation among guitar aficionados," says Hinson. "Our reputation is stellar worldwide."
