Uptown Dallas salon inspires big thoughts with art show starring at-risk teens

Dear Clark Hair Studio owners Kaycee Clark and Holly Dear partnered with Big Thought to present an art exhibit and sale featuring work produced by at-risk Dallas teens during the Creative Solutions summer program at SMU.

Event chairs Erica and Trey Kuppin welcomed guests with Blackberry Shine and Mojito Lemonade Punch from Firefly Moonshine, while Nick Van House pumped up the party with his musical mix.

Dear Clark’s environs — walls and floor — were adorned with artwork created by Big Thought students. While guests — including Bret McKinney, Sara and Michael Moldovan, Pablo Alvarado, and Imran Sheik — admired the works, they snacked on bites from the salon’s McKinney Avenue neighbor, So & So’s, and Pop Star Handcrafted Popsicles.

In addition to the artwork, attendees shopped for Dear Clark hair care products, succulents and head scarves made by Big Thought students. Proceeds benefited Big Thought, which serves the Dallas community by providing youth with access to innovative learning opportunities outside of a classroom setting.

The Dear Clark art show was the first event leading up to the 20th anniversary celebration of Big Thought Creative Solutions, a program partnership with the Dallas County Juvenile Department that provides at-risk teens a safe alternative to the streets by helping first-time juvenile offenders channel their energy into the visual and performing arts.
