Sporty Texas Scottish Rite Hospital fundraiser pulls in inspirational competitors
The 10th annual Dallas Sporting Clay Shoot drew more than 200 participants to Elm Fork Shooting Sports. Teams were eager to raise funds for Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC).
Among the participants was 15-year-old patient Jace McCarty of Kingsbury, Texas, a competitive shooter on the Texas 4-H circuit who dreams of one day making the U.S. Olympic team. Last fall, he had corrective surgery for scoliosis at TSRHC.
Also in attendance was 9-year-old patient Emily Hough of Forney, Texas, known for her Emily’s Monkeys program, which has produced more than 200 handmade sock monkeys for hospital surgical patients. Hough also donated two hats designed for her by Hatco Inc. to the event’s live auction.
Another inspirational competitor was former patient Daniel Massey, 41, of Austin, who brought along his son, Jud. Massey, a marketing executive at Dell, was born without arms or legs and continues to serve as a wonderful advocate for the hospital.
Hospital trustees Mike Gower, Buck Howard and Mike Pickens also showed off their skills at the event.
Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children is one of the nation’s leading pediatric centers for the treatment of orthopedic conditions, certain related neurological disorders and learning disorders such as dyslexia. Patients receive treatment regardless of the family’s ability to pay.
Since it began in 2005, the clay shoot has generated more than $200,000 for patient care at TSRHC.
