Ah, September. The time of year when it’s still hot as hell but at least football is on. We hope you enjoyed your Labor Day weekend — nothing like an extra day off to throw your whole routine out of whack.
This week in gluttony brings a couple of wine events, but, really, it’s about eating from food trucks and drinking craft beer. The TacoCon (Cerveza) at Four Corners Brewing ought to provide the perfect appetizer to Saturday’s Untapped Festival and the more than 200 beers available for sampling.
Thursday, September 5
Garden Cafe BYOB Dinner
Garden Cafe hosts a no-corkage BYOB dinner starting at 7:30 pm. (Doors open at 7.) Expect dishes such as chilled cantaloupe soup with mint and lime granita and seared salmon fillet with beurre-blanc, butter lettuce and herbed feta. Reservations are $45 and can be made at 214-887-8330.
Friday, September 6
Zinfandel Wine Tasting at Pappas Bros. Steakhouse
Pappas Bros. celebrates the harvest season with a Zinfandel wine tasting from 6 to 8 pm. Sample of a variety of Zinfandels from Napa Valley, Sonoma and Howell Mountain Appellation. Executive chef James Johnson offers a selection of seasonal hors d’oeuvre. Reservations are $55 and can be made at 214-366-2000.
TacoCon (Cerveza) at Four Corners Brewing
Four Corners Brewing and the North Texas Taco Festival celebrate the greatness of taco trucks with TacoCon (Cerveza) from 6 to 10 pm. Trucks featured at the brewery are Chile Pepper Grill, Holy Frijole, Ssahm BBQ, Taco Heads and Taco Party. Four Corners also has beer available by the pint, including a one-off called TacoCon (Cerveza). The event is free, but the tacos and beer require money, because, as a society, we have evolved past the inefficiencies of the barter system.
Nice Winery Wine Dinner at Central Market Lovers
The Nice Winery from Houston hosts a four-course wine dinner and cooking class at Central Market Lovers. Dishes include crab cakes with chile-lime aioli paired with Nice Sauvignon Blanc, and Malbec-braised short ribs with dried plums, celery root puree and sautéed rapini paired with Testamento Nice Cabernet Sauvignon. The class is from 6:30 to 9 pm and tickets are $65 per person.
Saturday, September 7
2013 Paste Untapped Dallas Indie Beer & Indie Music
The perfect blend of indie music and seriously good craft beer kicks off at Gilley’s at 3 pm. That is, unless you bought a VIP ticket, in which case you’re getting a sneak peek at all the rare beers that drive bushy-bearded men insane. With more than 200 beers from more than 65 breweries, you might have a hard time deciding. Of course, the music won’t be bad either. Performers include Delta Spirit, Blackalicious and Cults. Tickets start at $28 for the concert, $35 for a beer ticket plus concert, and $62.50 for VIP.
