What: A Night for Nexus
Where: Old Parkland Pecan Room
The 411: More than 115 guests joined co-chairs Janet Franks LaBarba and Jennifer Davis Long for the inaugural A Night for Nexus fundraising event, presented by the Preston Center Rotary Club. The evening included drinks, dinner, the Downtown Fever Band, and emotional testimony about the impact of the organization from Sue Alford Loncar, Shelmire Wynne, Jr., and Jennifer Arthur. TV personality Jane McGarry served as emcee.
The evening concluded with a rowdy live auction that including vacations, clothing, and a special culinary package featuring Parigi chef and owner Janice Provost. More than $72,000 was raised for Nexus Recovery Center to aid in its mission of serving as a link to sobriety, independence, and dignity for low-income women and their families affected by addiction.
In 2016, Nexus served 2,310 women and teens and 333 children, including 62 Nexus born babies.
