A little rain — or even a full-blown thunderstorm — couldn't keep hungry arts supporters away from one of their favorite fundraisers of the year.
Shortly after TACA Party on the Green got started, inclement weather forced the party to move from Sammons Park into the lobby of the Winspear Opera House, but attendees were not deterred.
Chairs Kim and Nevin Bannister had gathered together more than 20 of Dallas' most revered chefs from the city's best restaurants, and while event staff worked quickly to move equipment indoors, the party kept right on rolling.
Bars by Peticolas Brewing Company, Roxor Gin, and even PT's Coffee kept the drinks flowing while servers passed bites that guests would normally queue up for at the outside tents. Corks for the wine pull were also offered on trays of springy green grass, and DJ Lucy Wrubel set up on the Winspear's landing.
After an hour and a half, the soiree was cleared to return outside. Sibling trio The Grays (KJ Gray, Kierra Gray, and Kwinton Gray) took the stage set up over the reflecting pool, and attendees could once again admire the parked Lexus painted by Dallas artist Hatziel Flores.
Guests — including Greg and Kim Hext, Diane Brierley, Lynn McBee, Amy and Michael Meadows, Tassio and Milene Carvalho, and Melissa and Nick Patronella — could also re-examine all the silent auction offerings, which spanned private chef dinners to awesome artwork to a glamorous getaway to Santa Fe. Because of the rough weather, the silent auction was extended two extra days so bidders could nab their dream package.
All proceeds from the event benefit the North Texas arts and cultural community, allowing TACA to distribute grants to deserving arts organizations through its New Works and Artist Residency funds. Since its establishment in 1967, TACA has awarded more than $28 million in grants to more than 150 emerging and established nonprofit arts organizations, large and small, throughout Dallas county.
