Dallas biblical art buffs ensure success at annual 8x8 auction party

More than 250 art enthusiasts, dressed in their best country chic attire, flocked to the fourth annual 8x8 Art Exhibition and Auction at the Museum of Biblical Art. This event draws its name from the small works of art available for purchase, each measuring only 8 inches by 8 inches, which this year included a wide variety of paintings, sculpture, glass, photography and works on paper.

Event chair Kristi Kirkpatrick, owner of Wall Gallery, welcomed guests — including Patti Sparkman, Laura Sparkman, Kent Perkins, and Julie and George Tobolowsky — who enjoyed music by Shoot Low Sheriff, food from Cattleack Barbeque, and a wine pull and tasting salon presented by O’Neill Vintners.

But the best part was the opportunity to bid on an impressive collection of mini artwork just in time for holiday gifting. This was a rare chance to start the bidding at only $100 for works valued at $400-$5,000 retail.

“The event was a complete sellout of more than 110 works of art, with 36 artists from across the country present to meet the guests and bidders,” said museum curator and director Scott Peck. More than 100 artists participated this year, including Jane Seymour, J.D. Miller, Ruth Buzzi, Marton Varo and Mario Sheets.

8x8 raises funds for the Museum of Biblical Art’s educational programs, including Heroes of History field trips, summer art camp for kids, and special workshops for kids and adults.
