Out with TITAS Presents. In with TITAS/Dance Unbound. The longtime Dallas dance presenter is debuting a new name for a new season, also full of debuts.

The group, in association with AT&T Performing Arts Center, presents a 2019-2020 season featuring companies from six countries with four Texas debuts.

"Surprising, captivating, international. These words speak to what sets TITAS/Dance Unbound apart, " the organization says in a release. "For more than 37 years, TITAS has presented the coolest, the most innovative, the most remarkable dance artists touring the world today, hence our new name. A name that is more in line with who we are and what we do."

The next season promises to be funny, stunning, inspiring, and exciting, they say, with 10 companies from the United States, Canada, Mexico, South Korea, France, and China. Four of them are making their Texas debuts in Dallas with TITAS.

Here's a closer look at the season, with descriptions provided by TITAS:

    Ronald K. Brown/Evidence (USA)
    September 20, 2019
    Winspear Opera House

Choreographer Ron Brown’s stories and movement express traditional themes of community, ritual, and collective experience. In Brown’s words, he wants his work to represent “all the information that has gone into us — the stories, the history. It is really the human experience.” Ronald K. Brown/Evidence’s highly anticipated return to Dallas will feature a mixed rep including this extraordinary work Grace, originally created for Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.

    BODYTRAFFIC (USA)
    October 25-26, 2019
    Moody Performance Hall

Named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch” in 2013, and a definite TITAS favorite, BODYTRAFFIC has surged to the forefront of the dance world. After a decade of stellar performances and world tours that inlcuded Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Netherlands, BODYTRAFFIC has solidified its place as a force to be reckoned with on the international dance landscape. Hofesh Shechter, Ohad Naharin, Andrea Miller, Richard Siegal and Stijn Celis are just a few of the world’s top choreographers who have chosen to set works on BODYTRAFFIC, and TITAS has them back.

    Ballet British Columbia (Canada)
    November 8-9, 2019
    Moody Performance Hall

Dynamic, intelligent, passionate and artistic sophistication are the hallmarks of this extraordinary Canadian company. Brilliant dancers, and an outstanding artistic director, Emily Molnar, Ballet British Columbia has become one of the most sought-after companies in the world today. A remarkable repertoire by the world’s leading contemporary choreographers including Crystal Pite, Cayetano Soto, William Forsythe, Itzik Galili, Jorma Elo, and Adi Salant puts this company in an elite category of the world’s best.

    MOMIX (USA)
    December 13, 2019
    Winspear Opera House

With unbound creativity, MOMIX holds a unique place in on the world stage today. It was once said that “MOMIX use props as body,” never a truer statement about the enormous creativity in VIVA MOMIX. With their unrestrained ingenuity and fearless athleticism, Viva MOMIX is unfettered creativity. Surreal, surprising and wondrous, there’s nothing like the MOMIX live performance experience.

    Delfos Danza Contemporánea (Mexico) (Debut)
    January 31, 2020
    Winspear Opera House

Founded in 1992 in Mexico City by Mexican choreographers/dancers Claudia Lavista and Victor Manuel Ruiz, Delfos Danza Contemporánea is Mexico’s premiere contemporary dance company, ranking among the best in Latin America. Cuando los Disfraces se Cuelgan (When the Disguises are Hung Up) is an evening-length reflection on appearances and the disguises we put on in order to navigate a world. Brilliant imagery, powerful dancers and compelling movement make Delfos a stellar addition to the TITAS roster.

    Malandain Ballet Biarritz (France)
    February 7-8, 2020
    Moody Performance Hall

In the 2014-2015 season, TITAS presented Malandain Ballet Biarritz with Cinderella. But alas, in a true live theatre moment, the sets, props and costumes never made it off the boat from France. On the fly, and after a scramble, the company presented a spectacular repertory performance. Now in the 2019-2020 season, the Cinderella sets, props and costumes are arriving. One of the most important companies on the world stage, Thierry Malandain has forged an extraordinary reputation. He has taken hold of a ballet monument, Cendrillon, score by Prokofiev, and provided a fresh vision of an iconic story ballet.

    BeijingDance/LDTX (China) (Debut)
    February 28-29, 2020
    Moody Performance Hall

BeijingDance/LDTX (LDTX) is China’s first officially registered private professional contemporary dance company, co-founded in 2005 by Willy TSAO and LI Han-zhong. LDTX, Lei Dong Tian Xia, translates into “thunder rumbles the universe.” Willy TSAO, an influential figure in China’s contemporary dance, has created a remarkable company of artists full of individuality and technique. With exquisitely trained dancers from across China, LDTX provides a platform for Chinese dance artists to experiment and present multi-dimensional works. LDTX makes its debut in Texas with a stunningly crafted evening-length work, ARC.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (USA)
    March 13-14, 2020
    Winspear Opera House

When Alvin Ailey and a small group of African-American dancers took the stage on March 30, 1958 at New York City's 92nd Street Y, the engagement was for one night only, but it turned out to be the start of a new era in the arts. 60 years later, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater continues its reign as an American “cultural ambassador to the world” — having performed live for an estimated 25 million people in 48 states, 71 countries, and six continents. The gifted and gorgeous Ailey dancers infuse energy and emotion to classics and new works alike. Guided by the visionary artistic director Robert Battle, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater remains the nation’s leading modern dance company.

ChangMu Dance Company (South Korea) (Debut)
    April 11, 2020
    Winspear Opera House

Recognized today as the leading performer and creator of Korean contemporary dance, and over the past 35 years touring 100 cities in 20 countries, KIM MaeJa/ChangMu Dance Company has introduced the world to the artistry and beauty of Korean dance. Steeped in rich Korean culture, with a mastery of traditional Korean dance, including shaman dance, Buddhist dance, folk dance, and court dance, ChangMu Dance Company has helped bring Korean dance to the world stage. KIM’s stunning blending of contemporary and traditional choreography celebrates the future of Korean dance while honoring the past. Gorgeous cultural representation and remarkable dancers, TITAS/Dance Unbound welcomes KIM Maeja/ChangMu Dance Company in their Texas debut.

    RUBBERBAND (Canada) (Debut)
    May 1-2, 2020
    Moody Performance Hall

Founded in 2002 by Victor Quijada, RUBBERBAND immediately imposed itself in Canada and abroad as an explosive one-of-a-kind troupe. In 15 years, RUBBERBAND has not only redefined breakdance, but they have opened the way for new creators fascinated by this dance form. Delivering delicacy, finesse, brutality, and high-voltage action, Victor Quijada’s Ever So Slightly, performed with live music, is an exciting addition to the TITAS season. They are making their Texas debut with TITAS in Dallas.

    Command Performance (Special Event)
    June 6, 2020
    Winspear Opera House

Jaw-dropping and awe-inspiring, Command Performance always delivers one of the most exciting performances of the year. Artists from leading companies light up the stage with spectacular performances. It is the pyrotechnics of dance — the most exciting, innovative and beautiful works being performed today. Command Performance also features TITAS/Dance Unbound commissioned works created specifically for this gala performance; works by some of the world’s leading choreographers such as Twyla Tharp, Dwight Rhoden, Jessica Lang, Mia Michaels, Sonya Tayeh, Bridget L. Moore and WANG Yuanyuan.

Tickets for TITAS Unbound regular season performances begin at $12. Performance tickets to TITAS Unbound Command Performance also begin at $12. Subscribers receive discounted pricing depending on the number of shows they purchase and priority seating. Currently, patrons may purchase either the full season subscription or a minimum of six titles on a flex-subscription plan. Individual tickets, should they remain available after subscription sales, will be made available at a later date.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.attpac.org/titas, by phone at 214-880-0202 or in person at the AT&T Performing Arts Center information center at 2353 Flora St.

Netflix House in Dallas commissions mega-murals from acclaimed artist

A long-awaited immersive venue is opening in Dallas, and it will debut with local art on its walls: Netflix House, a year-round exhibit revolving around Netflix shows and movies, will open at Galleria Dallas on December 11, with two murals from award-winning Dallas multi-medium artist Jeremy Biggers.

Netflix House is an immersive dive complete with merchandise store, film house, arcade, and restaurant-bar. When it opens, Dallas will be the second location in the U.S., following Philadelphia, where it debuted in November 2025, also with murals from a local artist.

A graduate of Booker T. Washington High School for Performing and Visual Arts, Biggers is a renowned artist whose murals can be found spashed on walls across Dallas. Many, such as the Selena portrait on the wall outside Top Ten Records at 306 S. Bishop Ave., have become local landmarks.

He's a logical choice, having worked with a number of corporations including Nike, Adidas, the Dallas Mavericks, and IBM, for whom he created the "THINK" mural in their Dallas corporate office. His works have also been exhibited nationally, including a 2024 solo exhibition "be safe out there bro" at Band of Vices, a gallery in Los Angeles.

"Being chosen to be the artist to paint this mural, it would have been a disservice to myself, as well as the art scene in the city, not to try to infuse myself into it," he says.

Biggers did two murals featuring his interpretation of Netflix figures including the Squid Game Young-hee doll, characters from KPop Demon Hunters and megahit series Stranger Things, plus Pandy and DJ Catnip, the best friends in the interactive series Gabby’s Dollhouse.

Both murals are intensely colored works that incorporate Biggers' signature motif: a grid of polka dots spread across the image.

    • One is on the exterior of Netflix House, at the parking entrance, a colorful collage of characters, measuring 38 feet x 50 feet — the tallest mural Biggers has tackled. He painted it with aerosol; it took him two months to complete.
    • The other is on the interior, on the mall side entrance of Netflix House, measuring 57 feet x 12 feet — a study in moody blacks and blues, with accents of neon-red that give it a 3D effect.

“I'm trying to tell the story of Netflix, and the story of where Netflix has been historically, where Netflix is headed in the future, and then also infusing my own narrative and my own language visually into that story,” he says.

“They could have opened this anywhere, so for Dallas to be one of the very first locations — that’s a testament to us as a market, as consumers of arts and consumers in general," he says.
