Billionaire watch
Dallas-Fort Worth power players among the richest people on the planet
The world of hip hop leads one to believe the mantra of more money, more problems. But the 1,426 people who made the cut on Forbes 2013 Billionaires List look like they're doing just fine in the lap the luxury.
Joining the rarified air of billionaires in 2013 are 210 new faces, including retailer Bruce Nordstrom and yogurteer Hamdi Ulukaya, the founder of Chobani Greek yogurt.
The United States lays claim to the most billionaires in the world, with 442, or roughly 31 percent of the world's 10-figure net worths. Asia isn't far behind, though, with about 27 percent of the world's billionaires. Europe, the Americas and the Middle East and Africa round out the top five regions for wealth.
Locally, about 25 Dallas-Fort Worth residents made the cut, with power players such as Harold Simmons, T. Boone Pickens and Kelcy Warren making a predictable appearance.
Simmons has increased his net worth handsomely from $7.1 billion in 2012 to $8.3 billion in 2013. To put that leap in perspective, Simmons' increase in wealth is the equivalent of Picken's entire $1.2 billion fortune.
Warren, whose son is the namesake of Klyde Warren Park, also had a successful year, raising his bank account from $2.3 billion to $2.7 billion in 2013.
