Dallas ranks No. 3 in country for female-owned businesses
As the overall U.S. economy trudges toward a slow recovery, the 2013 State of Women-Owned Businesses Report shows where the jobs lie: in the hands of women — specifically those of Texas women.
According to the report, Texas has seen a 93 percent increase in the number of women-owned firms since 1997, behind only Georgia and Louisiana in the overall increase in number of businesses.
And Dallas has emerged as a frontrunner in opportunities for women entrepreneurs — one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas for women-owned firms, according to the study.
That earned Dallas the No. 3 ranking by Forbes of "The 15 Best Cities for Female Founders." Big D trailed only New York City and Houston in the list.
The number of women-owned firms in Dallas reached an all-time high of 188,200 in 2012, altogether earning $31,639,400 in revenue.
Elsewhere, Washington, D.C., and Atlanta rounded out the top five, while San Antonio took No. 15 in the ranking.
