You found the perfect man and the perfect gown in which to marry him. Now you need a place to settle down with Mr. Wonderful — in a place where you can affordably stash all of those fabulous wedding gifts.
Luckily Rent.com has come up with a handy list of the best cities for newlyweds, fortuitously timed at the start of wedding season. Dallas shares the distinction with (in no particular order) Houston, Seattle, Raleigh, D.C., San Jose, Minneapolis, San Diego, Charlotte and Tulsa.
To come up with its list, Rent.com looked at obvious concerns, including the number of married couples, families with children under the age of 6, mean annual income, cost of living and rental availability in each city.
Dallas, with 49 percent married couples, was noted for its “larger-than-life vibe,” abundance of amenities, high employment rates, great weather and affordable housing. The median rent for a two-bedroom apartment in Dallas is $1,193, which is considerably lower than a comparable place in D.C., Seattle, San Diego or San Jose.
In another bit of unsurprising news, Rent.com surveyed 1,000 renters and found that close to 40 percent of newlyweds would rather live in a different city than their families, and 38 percent say job opportunities dictate the city they settle in.
