Wallet Wellness
This North Texas spot ranks among the best cities for your wallet
Ahead of the year's biggest shopping season, WalletHub analyzed the 150 largest U.S. cities to see which ones are good for your wallet — and which ones aren't so hot. Based on the study, Plano is the third best city for wallet wellness. Plano's having quite the run, isn't it?
Twelve factors were used to determine each city's score in two main categories: "Affordability/Budget" and "Livability/Local Environment."
Plano ranks an impressive No. 2 for "Affordability/Budget." The city's high median household income — No. 2 among the cities studied — contributes to its showing. Less impressive is Plano's No. 35 ranking for "Livability/Local Environment," which was based on such factors as commute time, homeownership rate, and physical health factors.
Only one other Lone Star city joins Plano in the top 10: Austin, which ranks No. 10. Fort Worth ranks No. 42, followed by Dallas (No. 61), San Antonio (No. 63), and Houston (No. 65). Brownsville is the third worst city for wallet wellness (No. 148).
