John Mayer to make Gexa Energy Pavilion a wonderland during first tour in three years
John Mayer, who has become better known for the string of famous women he's dated than his music, has announced that he will go on his first tour in three years. Mayer will play 45 dates, including a stop at Gexa Energy Pavilion on July 13.
Mayer has had a drama-filled few years. Despite having a new album, Born and Raised, set to go in late 2011, Mayer was forced to delay its release after discovering that he had a granuloma next to his vocal cords.
After surgery and rest, plans were made to go ahead and release the record in May 2012, only to discover the throat situation was more serious than previously thought. Mayer underwent a second surgery in September 2012 to repair the condition. He is just now getting back to the point that he can perform again.
Not all is hunky dory for the singer, though. Despite appearing with Katy Perry at this year's Grammy Awards and telling CBS Sunday Morning that this is the first of his celebrity relationships that didn't feel like a celebrity relationship, Mayer and Perry reportedly broke up this week. Maybe she liked him better when he couldn't sing?
Hopefully neither heartbreak nor medical conditions will prevent Mayer from making his scheduled date with Dallas in July. American Idol champion/ubiquitous presence during the Olympics Phillip Phillips will serve as opening act.
