1. Texas farmer's ingenious greens machine churns out bumper crop. When Marshall Hinsley set up 11 Dutch buckets of kale, collard greens, broccoli and Swiss chard in his greenhouse last summer, he thought he might have a few greens to harvest for a couple of months in the winter. Now, 10 months later, he's still harvesting from what he call his greens machine.
2. With this loft you can live large in downtown Dallas for less than $225,000. If downtown loft living is at the top of your real estate wish list, and you have only $225,000 to spend, consider unit 904 at Soco Urban Lofts, located at 1122 Jackson St., in the southwest part of downtown Dallas. Actually, you only have to shell out $224,000 for this one listed with Jennifer Shindler of Dave Perry-Miller Real Estate.
3. New shop sweetens Deep Ellum with mind-blowing assortment of candy and soda. Of all the various openings in Deep Ellum, Rocket Fizz stands out as something new to the neighborhood. A candy and soda shop with more than 3,000 items, it will open this summer on Main Street, directly across the street from Pecan Lodge.
4. New bar revives Uptown location as a gathering place for the neighbors. The world of Uptown restaurants and bars is an ever-changing one, which brings us to Next Door Uptown, a new bar-kitchen opening in late summer at 2908 McKinney Ave., in the space that was most previously Three Sheets and before that Pozo Mercado.
5. Want to rent a nice apartment in Dallas? Then you need to make this much money. According to Zillow, it's darn near impossible to rent a median-priced apartment in most of the 35 largest U.S. metro areas on an income of $15 an hour. If you don't want a roommate (or several) in Dallas, you have to make at least $29.30 an hour to afford a decent place.
