Weekend Event Planner
Celebrity baseball and bevy of theater tours top best weekend events in Dallas-Fort Worth
There's no one overriding theme to the slate of events in Dallas-Fort Worth this weekend, but the hodgepodge of happenings adds up to a stellar list nonetheless. There are not one but two national theater tours coming through, a concert with multiple hip-hop legends, an early Fourth of July celebration and athletes competing in a game that's not their own.
Below are the best options for your precious free time Thursday through Sunday. Don't like what you see? Lucky for you, we have a much longer list of the city's best events.
Thursday, June 25
Dallas Summer Musicals presents Dirty Dancing
For nearly 30 years, Dirty Dancing has lived as one of the classic '80s movies thanks to iconic performances from Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, and, of course, the memorable songs. You can relive all of that and more thanks to the national tour of this stage adaptation, presented by Dallas Summer Musicals at Music Hall at Fair Park through July 5.
AT&T Performing Arts Center presents Annie
Despite somewhat admirable intentions, last year's attempt to update the film version of Annie proved to be a disappointment. You can get back to the charms of the original with the national tour coming to Winspear Opera House, featuring, as always, songs like "Tomorrow" and "It's the Hard Knock Life." It also runs through July 5.

LL Cool J in concert with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Doug E. Fresh and others
A whole host of rap/hip-hop legends descend on Gexa Energy Pavilion as part of the Kings of the Mic Tour. The concert is headlined by LL Cool J, but it also features Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane, Whodini, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Sugarhill Gang and the Furious 5. If this trip down nostalgia lane doesn't get you, then nothing will.
Seryn in concert with Gollay
It's been quite the couple of years for Denton originals Seryn, who lost a couple of founding members and then moved to Nashville in 2014. But they're back and better than ever with their new album, Shadow Shows, which they showcase at this concert at The Kessler. They are joined by opening act Gollay from Fort Worth.
Saturday, June 27
2015 Allen USA Celebration
The Fourth of July may still be a week away, but you can get the celebration started early by attending the Allen USA Celebration at Celebration Park in Allen. The day-long event features multiple concerts, kids activities and more, capped off by a performance by Michael McDonald and a spectacular fireworks show.
Reunion Lawn Party
Let's try this again: A month after the first edition was postponed because of the ungodly amount of rain the area got in May, Reunion Park hosts the inaugural Reunion Lawn Party, featuring performances by the Jonathan Fox Band and Folk Family Revival. The event also features lawn games, food trucks and more.
Dirk Nowitzki’s 2015 Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game
Athletes like Dirk Nowitzki, Dez Bryant and Tyson Chandler may excel at their chosen sports, but how will they do when they step on a baseball diamond? You can find out by attending the annual Heroes Celebrity Baseball Game at Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco, an event that also features singer Ryan Cabrera, actor Josh Henderson and others.

Concerts in the Garden: Luke Wade
Fort Worth singer Luke Wade made the leap from local musician to national recognition thanks to his stint on season seven of The Voice. While he didn't win that competition, he did gain a lot of new fans, many of whom will surely be on hand when he plays at the Fort Worth Botanic Garden as part of the Concerts in the Garden series.
