Mysterious Rom-Com
Star and director remain playfully cryptic about mysterious The One I Love
If you think all romantic comedies are the same, you'd be wise to check out The One I Love, which opens at Angelika Film Center Dallas on Friday, August 22. It centers around Ethan (Mark Duplass) and Sophie (Elisabeth Moss), a married couple who go on a retreat to try and revitalize their relationship.
But what happens when they get there is beyond their wildest imagination, a plot twist that deserves to remain unspoiled for anyone who hasn't seen the film. Suffice it to say that what the two of them experience has a profound effect on how they look at each other and their marriage.
Duplass, who also served as executive producer, and first-time director Charlie McDowell sat down for an interview with CultureMap to discuss the mysterious nature of the film, the experience of two filmmakers working together and whether either of them could give up bacon — an idea that comes up in the film.
