Sheraton Dallas downtown to host Reese Witherspoon monthly book club
Books are your friend at the Sheraton Dallas in downtown Dallas, which will now become an official venue for Reese’s Book Club, gathering every month starting Saturday, January 27 in the hotel’s Club Lounge.
"Reese" is Reese Witherspoon, who founded her book club in 2017 as a way to promote and celebrate books by female authors with a woman at the center of the story. She announces a new book each month, and has recommended 80 books so far.
She's since become a literary force, propelling books into big hits, and also adapting books into film and TV projects executed by her Hello Sunshine production company.
Anyone can join for free by subscribing to her newsletter or registering for her mail list.
But In an effort to enhance the traveler's experience, Sheraton hotels and resorts have partnered with Reese's Book Club on a program which varies by location, but which involved gathering people together.
Some properties such as the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel are doing single night pop-ups; others - including the Sheraton Dallas - are making it a regular thing by hosting book club meet-ups every month.
The first one in Dallas takes place on January 27, from 2-3:30 pm, and will center on the book that Witherspoon has selected: First Lie Wins, a novel by Ashley Elston, which will be discussed at the first gathering. Interested parties can register here.
Reese won't be there in person but there will be a host to lead the monthly gathering meet-ups, and light sips and bites will be served.
The Sheraton Dallas’ Club Lounge is on the second floor of the hotel. Complimentary on-site hotel parking is available for up to four hours. (Attendees should bring their parking ticket and present it to the host for validation.)
Subsequent book club meet-ups are scheduled for the last Saturday of every month, beginning with February 24.
Is it time for some quotes about books? Most are by very old people, seemingly all friendless. Ernest Hemingway said, "There is no friend as loyal as a book." Charlie Lovett said, "A good book is like a good friend. It will stay with you for the rest of your life."
