1. All 5 Alamo Drafthouse Cinema locations in Dallas-Fort Worth close. In a sad day for Dallas moviegoers, all five Dallas-area locations of the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema chain closed on June 5. The corporate office says they hope to get the locations back up and running.
2. Plano loses arthouse movie theater Angelika after 20 years. Acclaimed independent movie theater Angelika Film Center & Cafe - Plano, which had been open at The Shops at Legacy shopping center since 2004, closed its doors on June 3. The Dallas location at Mockingbird Station remains open.
3. Cute bookstore-coffeeshop combo Read Shop makes Texas debut in Dallas. Read Shop, a cute new bookstore-coffee shop, is opening on Henderson Avenue in the former Emeralds to Coconuts boutique on Saturday, June 9. Dallas is its first location in Texas, and only the second overall, after the original in Atlanta.
4. Why the Alamo Drafthouse was such a treasure for Dallas' movie scene. Alamo was a breath of fresh air in the Dallas-Fort Worth movie scene, a haven for film lovers that provided a communal feel, rarely matched at other more impersonal theaters.
