New Dallas Sports Team
Dallas to get a professional women's soccer team with creation of new league
A new professional women’s soccer team is coming to DFW: It's part of the USL Super League, a new league set to kick off in August 2024 with eight inaugural teams, including Dallas-Fort Worth; Brooklyn; Fort Lauderdale; Tampa; Charlotte, North Carolina; Lexington, Kentucky; Spokane, Washington; and Washington, D.C.
UPDATE 5-9-2024: According to a release, the name of the new team will be Dallas Trinity FC. It will play under the main colors of sunrise maroon, prairie gold, and live oak green, colors inspired by the city skyline and the Trinity River.

The Dallas City Council made it official with a vote on May 8 to approve Cotton Bowl Stadium as a home for a professional sports league. Their approval set the stage for league games to take place at the venue.
The plan authorized a $592,000 subsidy for the next two years with the operators of Fair Park to secure a contract with the unnamed USL Super League team to play home games at the stadium in South Dallas. It includes the option to continue for a third year.
The USL Super League will sit at the top of the USL’s youth-to-pro women’s pathway, which includes a pre-professional league called the USL W League; a talent development entity called the USL Academy; and the Super Y League, a youth competition.
It's not to be confused with the National Women's Soccer League, a separate league that was founded in 2012 and has its own set of teams in cities such as Boston, Chicago, and Houston.
Uniquely for American soccer, the USL Super League will play on the “fall-to-summer” soccer calendar traditionally followed around the world, ensuring players are able to represent both club and country and allowing clubs to actively participate in the emerging global women’s transfer market.
The Dallas team's name is still TBA: It'll be announced on Thursday, May 9 by USL Super League president Amanda Vandervort; Jim Neil, USL Super League Dallas CEO; and Charlie Neil, USL Super League Dallas president.
USL Super League Dallas-Fort Worth is led by the Neil Family, whose ventures include real estate investment banking, current and former athletes in U.S. Soccer / U.S. Deaf Soccer and professional baseball, sports tech entrepreneurship, and advertising.
“North Texas, renowned for its youth participation in the women’s game and vibrant sports culture, has for too long been awaiting a women’s professional soccer team," says a statement from the Neil Family. "We are proud to be partnering with the USL Super League and building a championship caliber team with the Dallas-Fort Worth community.”
The announcement comes on the heels of the city approving plans for a $140 million renovation of the stadium.
This is the second professional women’s sports team to choose Dallas as their home in less than a month. In April, Dallas approved an agreement for the Women's National Basketball Association's professional team Dallas Wings to relocate from their headquarters in Arlington and move to Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas Memorial Arena.
