Artist infuses modern-day Lakewood masterpiece with old-world charm
A new listing in Lakewood proves that a home can be a beautiful reflection of its owner. A total remodel of 7022 Pasadena Ave. transformed it into a modern home with old-world European charm, filled to the brim with artful details selected by the creative owners.
Using creativity and attention to detail, current owners Linda and Stephan Martiniere set about making the house their own. The dreamy floorplan include two master bedrooms — one upstairs and one down — which allows for great flexibility. Listing agent Laura Morris of Ebby Halliday says the property truly has the feel of two homes being connected by an art walk.
“This fully enclosed breezeway, completely finished out with hardwood floors and gorgeous windows, takes you to the fourth bedroom, fourth full bath, multiple sitting rooms, loft areas, art studio and extra storage.”
Although the owners respected the home’s 1938 bones, they understood what needed to be updated, so they gutted the kitchen and started over with an expanded footprint. The added skylight and large window bring tons of natural light into the open-concept, gourmet space.
The Martinieres also imported an ornate, carved Belgium antique to serve as a large kitchen island; the surrounding cabinetry was custom designed to echo the piece’s details. Other new features include updated bathrooms, custom railings, an electric gate out back for privacy and a cedar-covered parking area.
This home would likely make anyone swoon, but Morris thinks it’s particularly suited for creatives working out of the home. Case in point: Stephan is an award-winning concept artist for movies and theme parks and spent a lot of his time in the attached 800-square-foot art studio.
The couple plans say goodbye to Dallas to move back to France but hopes the next owners will appreciate their home for what they intended it to be — an ever-evolving work of art.
“There’s something about the house itself that is playful yet elegant,” Morris says. “It’s both mysterious and serene. The layout is perfect for people working at home, artists, photographers, hobbyist, etc., and the possibilities are endless.”
List price for those possibilities: $935,000.
