Antonio Swad, who founded the Wingstop and Pizza Patrón chains, has a new concept, now open: Porch Swing, a restaurant doing "polished comfort food," has opened a location in Mesquite.
According to a release, Porch Swing has tweaked and refined revered Southern classics, including fried chicken, ribs, catfish, grilled meatloaf, pork loin, shrimp, chicken fried steak, and pies.
Swad says in a statement that the restaurant is a blend of contemporary and classic Southern touches, with a social, fun atmosphere.
"This concept revealed itself over time and in the end gelled together like no other," he says.
Hot buttermilk cheddar biscuits and two kinds of honey, one spicy, are delivered to the table as soon as you are seated. That's a big win.
Also winning: There's a full bar with signature drinks like Frozen Jack ‘N Coke and Lemon Hooch, made with lemonade and moonshine.
A separate stand-alone shop called The Pie Company is a destination unto itself, selling house-made pies, whole or by the slice.
The restaurant is located at 3855 W. Emporium Cir., with unique features such as double-sided porch swings, a huge outdoor patio, a state-of-the-art sound system, and live music stage. Open for lunch and dinner, the restaurant seats 150 indoors and another 130 on its spacious outdoor covered porch.
"We've created a space where people can relax and enjoy good Southern food, spirits, pie, and watch a game or enjoy live entertainment on the weekends," Swad says.
