A new Food Network show called Dallas Cakes is spotlighting bakers in Dallas. According to a release, the series debuts on April 30 at 9:30 pm, and will follow six Dallas-area bakers who bake big cakes.

In each of the 10 half-hour episodes, three bakers conceive, create, and deliver edible works of art using cake, frosting, incredible imagination, and skill.

From an impressive Game of Thrones wedding cake featuring an intricate cake topper of a dragon wrapped around the iron throne, to a Back to the Future DeLorean car cake with working headlights, and to a gigantic oil derrick cake that spews chocolate.

Food Network senior VP Courtney White says that the show will join a sweet-themed Monday night schedule.

"Viewers devour our baking-themed Monday night line-up, and Dallas Cakes is the cherry on top of our dessert-filled programming," White says in a release. "Audiences will be captivated by the expert baking techniques and decorating skills used in every detail of these unique, jaw-dropping cakes — each one living up to Dallas' larger-than-life reputation."

Episode 1, called "Dragons and Belt Buckles, Oh My!" includes a segment on a groom's cake with a Game of Thrones theme, with a sculpted ice dragon and an intricately carved Iron Throne.

Another segment covers a Chinese New Year block party featuring "a cake so over the top, it literally smokes."

The third cake commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Fort Worth Stockyards Championship Rodeo, with 24 layers of cowboy coffee cake turned into the world's largest belt buckle. The episode has some suspense on whether it will hold up to being delivered right to the arena floor.

    Participating bakers include:

    • Bronwen Weber of Frosted Art Bakery
    •
    • Roshi Muns of Society Bakery
    •
    • Jamie Holder of Crème de La Crème
    •
    • Elizabeth Rowe of The London Baker
    •
    • Dylan Humphrey of Kool Kakes by Dylan
    •
    • Heidi Allison of Sugar Bee Sweets

Toast to a taste of France this week with multiple Bastille Day celebrations. But first, take a tasty store tour with Italian bites, sip-and-stroll for margarita sampling, and catch a Chicago "beef bus" during its stop in Grand Prairie this week.

    Friday, July 11

    Store Tour: Taste of Eataly
Taste your way through Eataly’s Italian gourmet marketplace with the help of store experts. Stop at various counters and stations to sip and sample some of Eataly’s most popular offerings. Tickets are $45, plus tax and a small fee, and the tour will run from 10:30 am-12 pm.

    Saturday, July 12

Portillo's Beef Bus at Grand Prairie Outlets
Chicago hot dog and Italian beef sandwich chain continues its Beef Bus tour around the Lone Star State with a stop at Great Prairie Outlets. Visit for Chicago-style hot dogs on steamed poppyseed buns, Italian beef sandwiches, Polish sausages, and crinkle-cut fries with “liquid gold” cheese sauce on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am-9 pm while supplies last.

Bastille Day Tea at The French Room
The Adolphus Hotel will celebrate France’s national holiday with festivities in The French Room Saturday-Monday. The three-course tea menu will feature festive French pastries and a toast with Kir Royale – a classic French cocktail of crème de cassis topped with champagne. (Enjoy an extra sweet treat on Monday, Bastille Day itself.) Tea service starts at $80 plus tax and gratuity, and reservations are encouraged.

    McKinney Margarita Stroll
Historic downtown McKinney loves its sip-and-strolls. This one will feature 15 stops around the square for margarita sampling, plus five bonus stops for spritzes, craft beer, and more. The $35 ticket plus tax and a small fee, includes a logo cup and a marg map. Stroll sessions are 11 am-2 pm, 1-4 pm, and 4-7 pm.

    Bastille Day at Coupes
Oak Lawn Avenue champagne bar will honor France’s national holiday with French-inspired specials. Enjoy sweet and savory Bastille Day crepes and 25 percent off all bottles, along with DJ tunes of 70s and 80 French and Italian funk, disco, and jazz. Coupes will be open from 3-10 pm.
