There are lots of birthdays to celebrate this week. And while it doesn't mean free cake, it does mean almost free pizza and a food truck competition. There's vodka and tequila for toasting, too. Here's what's on tap through the weekend.
Tuesday, September 25
The Art of the Old Fashioned Class at The French Room Bar
Bartender Morgan leads a class about the artistry of crafting a perfect old fashioned. Multiple flavor combinations are presented for seasonal expressions, including black walnut maple, honey lemon, vanilla cinnamon coffee nutmeg, and more. Guests are also provided with a cocktail kit to take home. Tickets are $45 and the class starts at 6 pm. The class is sold out; however, call 214-742-8200 to inquire about getting on the waiting list.

Perceptions: A Modern Scottish Meal at Central Market Lovers Lane
In conjunction with Central Market's "Passport United Kingdom" event, customers can enjoy an evening of Scottish favorites transformed by Chef Mark Greenaway’s style and discover what modern Scottish fare is all about. The menu includes cullen skink, spaghetti bolognese, roasted venison loin, cranachan, and more. Tickets are $75 and the event starts at 6:30 pm. It repeats Friday.

One Year Anniversary at GAPCO Peavy Road
Celebrate one year of Greenville Avenue Pizza Company's Peavy Road location with $1, one-topping pizza slices from 11 am-4 pm and again from 9 pm-1 am. The restaurant will be open all day for business and revelry.
Saturday, September 29
Taste of Firewheel at Firewheel Town Center
This fourth annual all-day food festival features delicious bites, refreshing beverages, and free live music by DJ Craig from Groove Labs. There also will be prize giveaways, children’s entertainment, and of course, fabulous shopping. Wristbands include 10 tastes and are $20 (or two wristbands for $35). Drinks will also be available for purchase. The event lasts from 11 am to 3 pm.
Vodka and Tequila Festival at Cool River Cafe
In celebration of their 20th anniversary, the restaurant showcases 20 different vodkas and tequilas from around the world. Mixologists from across the country will create specialty cocktails that will accompany chef-created appetizers. Throughout the evening, there will be raffles and prize giveaways. Following the event, guests can enjoy live music by Live 80s. Tickets are $40 and the event kicks off at 7:30 pm. Contact the events manager for tickets at 214-492-0343.
Birthday Food Truck Competition at Truck Yard
Greenville Avenue's favorite outdoor bar is throwing a killer 5th birthday party that includes a food truck competition, live music, a dog adoption, an exotic petting zoo, and lots of local beers. The competing trucks serve from 12-5 pm and include Easy Slider, Not Just Q, Chez Flo, Chito's on Wheels, Nomadic Grille, Azucar, and Chef G & Sparkle Creations. Tickets are $25 and include a taste from each truck. A ticket isn't required to attend the party, just to take part in the food truck competition. After the winner is crowned, Truck Yard’s regular trucks will continue serving food from 5-9 pm.
