There's an opening date on a fashionable new cafe coming to Dallas: Called Cafe Dior by Dominique Crenn, it'll reside inside the recently-opened Dior store at 58 Highland Park Village, with a menu overseen by Michelin-starred chef Dominique Crenn.
Crenn is a native of France who became the first female chef in the U.S. to achieve three Michelin stars, at her San Francisco restaurant Atelier Crenn. She has also earned accolades such as coming in at No. 10 on Robb Report's 50 Most Powerful People in American Fine Dining, James Beard Awards, and appearances on multiple TV shows including The Next Iron Chef, Chef’s Table, and Top Chef France.
Café Dior by Dominique Crenn will pair chef Crenn's culinary brilliance with the artistry of haute couture, featuring French influences with a modern twist.
According to a story in Women's Wear Daily, the cafe is slated to open on February 22, with a menu inspired by Dior's iconic designs.
Menu specifics are slim; Crenn tells WWD that she would like diners to be surprised by what they find. But she does share a trio of dishes that include:
- La Colle Noire - chicken with an herb sauce and Tuscan kale
- The Miss Dior Consomme, featuring edible flowers
- Chicken with mint, cucumber, and arugula
Two out of the three dishes starring chicken indicate that Dior Cafe will not be following the "no meat" philosophy observed at Crenn's restaurants in San Francisco — not surprising, given Dallas' and Texas' obsession with meat.
While Crenn created the menu, she won't be at the cafe day-to-day. Instead, the cafe will be operated by a Dallas-based hospitality company, which is working with farmers in the Dallas area such as Profound Farms in Lucas to provide quality ingredients and also engage the community around the restaurant.
Renderings of the interior show a light-filled space conveyed via rows of windows outlined in black, with white-washed hardwood floors, pale beige marble, and matching pale beige banquettes. There are mirrored accents as well as large abstract modern murals on the walls.
Retro-modern chairs are upholstered in houndstooth fabric in three colors: beige-and-white, black-and-white, and maroon-and-white. Each chair is accompanied by a matching stool to hold the diner's designer purse, of course.
