El Rio Grande Latin Market brings a supermarket option to far East Dallas
A Latin supermarket chain is opening a new store in a neighborhood in far East Dallas: El Rio Grande Latin Market will open at 3035 N. Buckner Blvd., at the northwest corner of John West Road.
According to a release, the store opens on August 18.
Founded in 2005 by CEO Hamdy Shalabi in a partnership with his family, El Rio Grande Latin Market was born with a dream to bring flavors of Latin cuisine to Dallas-Fort Worth. They opened their first location at 5308 Maple Ave.
The chain offers specialty ingredients from across the globe at price points for everyone.
Specialty departments at the new location will include Kitchen, Bakery, Pasteleria, Palapa (Juice Bar), Meat Department, and Produce.
El Rio Grande Latin Market takes pride in offering an array of Latin inspired departments with fresh ingredients unique to the store, some of which include:
- Bakery with baked goods made from scratch daily.
- Pasteleria, specializing in cakes from scratch, including their signature Tres Leches cake.
- Cocina serving ready-made Latin dishes to enjoy in their seating area or to take home.
- Juice bar with aguas frescas and other beverages and healthy bites
A spokesperson says that the company is excited to serve East Dallas at the new Buckner location.
This is the chain's its fifth location in Dallas, following Maple Avenue, Lake June, Jefferson Boulevard, and Webb Chapel. There are also locations in Fort Worth, Garland, Grand Prairie, and Mesquite.
It's going into a former Gaston Bazaar flea market. According to CBS, the city of Dallas put up $1.3 million in development funds to give the neighborhood an upgrade, and has granted a 15-year lease as a sign of its commitment.
The closest market is the Walmart Supercenter at Buckner and I-30, about two miles away. Otherwise, there are not too many grocery options in the area.
