After five years tucked inside Shed #2 at the Dallas Farmers Market, Aint No Mo' Butter Cakes has surfaced in a new setting: the Valley View Center at LBJ and Preston.
Owners Sheri and Quincy Brown opened a branch at the mall in October, where they're serving bundt cakes, cookies, pies, ice cream cones and a new item they don't serve downtown: cheesecake.
Quincy says their move came about thanks to a bump, indirectly, from Guy Fieri.
To celebrate the expansion, they've brought in new flavors for the fall including red velvet, German chocolate, birthday cake, carrot cake and cheesecake.
"The Valley View property manager came to visit Pecan Lodge after seeing them on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives," he says. "She was standing in line and tried a sample ... Then she noticed how my wife was smiling, putting the cakes in and out of the oven. We were happy to be invited. We thought it would be a wonderful experience to be inside of a mall."
They're located across from Bath and Body Works, upstairs from the food court, in what used to be a Great American Cookie space.
"We got a perfect space because it already had a kitchen, rest room and walk-in cooler," Quincy says. "We changed the color of the tiles to match our pinks and browns. But the big difference is that it's so big. I'm used to being cramped in Shed #2."
Aint No Mo's lineup centers on bundt cakes. They come in numerous sizes, including the popular baby bundt, which can be considered one or two servings, depending on your gluttony; a full-size bundt cake; and sheet cakes in various sizes. Their best-seller is the basic butter cake, but they also carry numerous flavors such as chocolate, lemon, caramel and pineapple.
To celebrate the expansion, they've brought in new flavors for the fall including red velvet, German chocolate, birthday cake, carrot cake and cheesecake, to which they add various toppings such as blueberry or chocolate. They also make cocoa and hot coffee.
There's been one other adjustment: Sheri and Quincy are now at different stores.
"My wife and I are so used to working together, side by side," Quincy says. "I am totally not used to having her next to me."
