The stage is set for Thanksgiving on Thursday, but there are other tasty happenings this week, including a Japanese take on the traditional Thanksgiving meal, the kick-off of a German market, a barbecue pitmaster course, a smoothie pop-up, and a whiskey tasting. Multiple stretchy pants may be required.

    Monday, November 21

    Miracle at The Aussie Grind
The Frisco coffee shop, café, and bar will make spirits extra bright this holiday with the return of Miracle, the nationwide Christmas-themed pop-up bar that arrives in more than 100 cities this week. Originating in New York City, Miracle features over-the-top Christmas décor and craft cocktails in beautiful glassware to set the tone for the season. Past fan-favorite cocktails include the Christmaspolitan, made with spiced cranberry sauce and elderflower with vodka and dry vermouth, and the Snowball Old-Fashioned, which looks just like it sounds. New for this year is kitschy Grandma Got Run Over By A T-Rex – a vodka concoction with orange liqueur, spiced pomegranate and grapefruit, and aloe vera. Also new is the Holiday Spiked Chai made with brandy, Jamaican rum, coffee liqueur, and amaretto. Miracle will run through December 31.

    Tuesday, November 22

    Japanese Thanksgiving at Uchi Dallas
Uchi will provide a unique take on the traditional Thanksgiving meal with this multi-course omakase dinner. Menu highlights includes spaghetti squash bisque with shrimp, bluefin crudo, and turkey katsu with Japanese curry. Dinner is $275 for two, plus tax and gratuity. Reservation times vary and are limited.

    Friends-Giving Trivia at Legacy Hall
Start Thanksgiving week by testing your knowledge of the iconic hit series Friends at the Plano food hall. Grab a cup of coffee from Legacy Hall vendor Whisk & Eggs, sliders from Son of a Butcher, or chili cheese fries from Root Chicken Shak and get ready to play. The $30 fee to participate is good for a team of up to six players. Teams with the most points can win Legacy Hall gift cards for first, second, and third place, up to $100. Trivia begins at 7 pm.

Longtime Thai restaurant Bangkok on Dallas' Greenville Ave to close

A longtime Asian restaurant on Dallas' Greenville Avenue is closing: Bangkok, which has been authentic Thai flavors and heartfelt hospitality at 4503 Greenville Ave. since 1993, will close its doors on June 30.

According to a release, owners Joe and Sunny Pumphaung, who have run the restaurant together since Joe, who was a server, took ownership in 2005, are closing due to rising operational costs and a desire to spend more time with their aging parents.

The couple, who married shortly after Joe took over the restaurant, have spent their lives building a restaurant rooted in family, culture, and community.

“While this was not an easy decision, we know in our hearts that it’s time,” Sunny says in a statement. “We’re so proud of the memories and meals shared here. Bangkok has been our home, and we’re grateful to have shared it with so many.”

Joe grew up in a family of restaurateurs in Thailand and studied culinary arts at the Royal Family’s cooking school, where he was trained not only in Thai cuisine but also in the art of fruit and vegetable carving and floral arrangement — elements that reflected the importance of presentation, beauty, and tradition in Thai culture.

These values were brought to life at Bangkok at Greenville in every dish served and every guest interaction.

At one point, they had locations in Addison, which has closed; and Richardson (which hosted a Thai-themed afternoon tea); Richardson is still open, but Joe and Sunny are no longer the owners.

Over the years, Greenville Avenue became more than a dining destination—it became a second home for guests who returned time and time again to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, quiet weeknights, and special occasions.

“Many of our staff have been with us for 20 to 30 years,” Joe says. “They’re not just employees—they’re family. And to our guests, you are family too. Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives.”
