SmokeOut Injustice Day at Cheba Hut
Sandwich chain Cheba Hut will celebrate this annual event wherein locations donate $2 from every entree — any salad or sandwich, sold in-shop or delivered — to Last Prisoner Project, which supports those doing time for nonviolent weed-related crimes. All DFW stores will participate including Deep Ellum, Denton, Dallas-Preston Rd, Arlington, and Fort Worth.

Thursday, January 23

Adulti-Verse: Rooted & Radiant at Meow Wolf
Interactive art exhibit in Grapevine will host an adults-only night featuring a menu of plant-based bites and non-alcoholic cocktails. Participating restaurants include Pizza Verde, who’ll serve “meat” balls and bruschetta, and TLC Vegan Café, who’ll bring basil ricotta tortellini with Alfredo and roasted tomato arrabbiata sauces. There’ll also be free mocktail workshops hosted by Beyond the Bar alcohol-free bottle shop. Tickets are $45 and the party begins at 6 pm with DJ Sober to bring the beats from 7–9 pm.

One-Year Anniversary at Columbian Country Club
East Dallas martini bar (inspired by a Dallas bar of the same name that was around in the late 1800s) will celebrate its first birthday with a late-night party. Visit starting at 9 pm for tray-passed hors d’oeuvres, a caviar station with caviar shots, ice sculpture cocktails, casino tables, and DJ music. The party will run until 2 am.

Mediterranean Wine Dinner at Gorji
Addison New Mediterranean steakhouse will host a four-course wine dinner with pairings from Italy, Macedonia, and Lebanon. Menu items include yellowfin ahi tuna crostini or sea scallops, three-cheese spinach lasagna, prime beef tenderloin with gnocchi, pomegranate cream sauce, and grilled vegetables, and a vanilla ice cream and dark chocolate dessert. Dinner is $195 plus tax and begins at 6:30 pm.

Saturday, January 25

BrisketU at Peticolas Brewing Company
Prepare for backyard barbecue season with this brisket-smoking workshop at Peticolas Brewing Company. Participants will learn how to select the right cut, trimming techniques, wood selection, managing the fire, timing, and how to properly slice the final product. Class is $139 ($129 for each additional participant) and begins at 9 am.

Modern Afternoon Tea at Mirador
This dim sum-inspired three-course experience at Mirador provides a new twist on the classic English tradition. Menu highlights include a caviar tartlet, Wagyu sando, foie gras macaron, and pear linzer cookies. The tea is $89, plus tax and gratuity, and begins at 2 pm.

Vegan Brunch Party at The Kitchen Café
This entirely vegan brunch will be hosted by Moonlight Dining and Eatyodestiny. The menu includes an avocado toast trio, agave and butter-glazed “ChickUn” and waffles, crispy tomato and “crab,” and pistachio French toast. There’ll also be DJ music. Brunch is $65, or $85 for bottomless mimosas, and begins at 11 am.

Portillo's hot dog chain opens first airport shop in Dallas-Fort Worth

Travelers taking flight can now get a hot dog: Portillo’s, the fast-casual chain from Chicago, is opening the first-ever Portillo’s airport location in Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

The new location is one of two — along with another in The Villages, Florida — that will feature a new small, dine-in only format. It won't have the traditional drive-thru. Because there is no drive-thru at the airport, see. See what I'm saying.

Unlike traditional Portillo’s locations, the airport restaurant will feature a smaller, walk-up accessible footprint with multiple ordering touchpoints – including at the register, self-order kiosks, and order ahead for pick-up.

There will also be a variety of seating options accommodating more than 50 guests as well as a grab-and-go area — useful for travelers taking food on the plane, to their gate, or for leisurely meals during layovers or the unfortunate flight cancellation.

Portillo's partner for the DFW Airport location is PhaseNext Hospitality, whose president and CEO Roz Mallet says she is "thrilled to partner with Portillo's on this first airport location."

“As a fan of the culture, food, and history of Chicago, I have also been a longtime fan of Portillo’s,” Mallet says.

Guests can expect signature Portillo’s items like Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, char-grilled burgers, and Portillo’s "famous" chocolate cake.

Hot dogs come in regular, chili cheese, Polish sausage, and Maxwell Street Polish sausage which has mustard and grilled onions.

Their Italian beef sandwich features thinly sliced roast beef served on French bread, which is then dipped in hot gravy. You can order it dipped with sweet or hot peppers and mozzarella.

Portillo's first entered the Dallas market with a location at the Grandscape development in The Colony in January 2023. They have seven other locations in DFW, in Allen, Arlington, Denton, Fort Worth, Grand Prairie, Grapevine, and Mansfield.
